ABOUT THE DIRECTORS

Siko Mining Services (Pty) Ltd Directors have a combined experience base of almost 60 years in the mining industry as outlined below:

Bonani Siko is a qualified Mining Engineer with National Diploma – Coal Mining, National Higher Diploma – Coal Mining, B-Tech – Mining Engineering at UJ and a certificate – Executive Development Program with UCT. He further has a Mine Manager’s certificate of competency with the DMR.

He is currently a director at SMS and has been General Manager at Wescoal Holdings (Pty) Ltd heading their Mining Operations (appointed under section 4.1 of the Mine Health and Safety Act) for almost 4 years. Additional to the GM role at Wescoal, Bonani also served as a director at Wescoal Mining (Pty) Ltd and Aztolinx (Pty) Ltd.

Bonani has an accumulation of experience in the Coal Mining space and Mining in general. He further had an opportunity to complete the total Coal Mining value chain through Eskom’s Primary Energy Division, a role he served as their Senior Manager – Coal Operations, in support of Coal Supply agreements between Eskom’s coal fired power stations and the Mining houses. Bonani Acted as Divisional Executive at Eskom’s Primary Energy Division and CEO at Wescoal Mining.

Bonani is an active member of the South African Colliery Manager’s Association (SACMA) and the Institute of Directors Southern Africa (IoDSA).

He has more than 18 years’ experience in the mining industry.

Martin Makoni graduated from the University of Zimbabwe in 1981.

He has BSc Mechanical Engineering Honours (UZ), MSc Industrial and Administrative Sciences (City University)

Martin was a Section Engineer at Shabanie and Mashaba Mines, Zimbabwe since 1984 after his pupilage and became Divisional Engineer responsible for underground Mining and Milling in 1991.
Martin then joined Orapa and Letlhakane Mines in Botswana in 1999 as Section Engineer and ended as Divisional Engineer responsible for the mining operations for both mines. He spent 10 years in Botswana after which he joined Eskom as a Senior Mechanical Engineer before joining the coal operations team as Coal Supply Unit Manager responsible for the coal supply for Tutuka power station. He was with Eskom for 7 years.

Martin is currently working on coal supply projects specializing in the Pelletising of fine coal for commercial use.

He has 37 years’ experience in the Mining industry.
